BBGS prof bikes to Nova Scotia
Some people walk for an afternoon to raise money. Other people work a bit harder for it.
Dr. Dow Pursley, professor at Baptist Bible Graduate School, left on a bike trip August 6 from Clarks Summit to Nova Scotia and back to benefit the Love-Life Marriage and Family Center. Dr. Pursley is raising money to support the interns who serve at the Center. He is 58.
The Center is a fully functional counseling clinic on the campus of BBGS. It provides biblical counseling for 60–80 individuals from the surrounding communities each month.
Each year, the Center employs two interns, who work largely on a volunteer basis. The Center provides them with a small stipend for their services, which is funded entirely by donations.
Dr. Pursley aims to raise $10,000. That much will support interns for four years.
The trip, which is over 2,000 miles long, will take him through five states and two provinces.
Dr. Pursley rode extensively in his younger years. His longest race was 500 miles long. He is riding a vintage 1984 Bianchi Sport SS, sleeping in a tent, and cooking his own food.
“I’d like to do 150 miles per day, but we’ll see. I’m just an old guy going for a bike ride and hoping for the best,” he said before leaving on Monday morning.
Dr. Pursley expects to finish by August 28, in time for BBGS classes to start.
