Campus Appreciation Day

Junior Kim Maslanka describes Campus Appreciation Day as her favorite chapel of the year because it brings a “unity on campus unlike any other day.” Students in all classes participated in BBC’s annual campus clean-up on April 26.

This year, each class raked, mulched, and swept specific areas. The seniors swept the parking lots of Nordling and Ridley while the juniors cleaned the faculty parking lot area. The sophomores were privileged to spruce up the main soccer field as well as the outside of several dorms. The freshman class had the most ground to cover, including the pool, five dorms, and the student center.

The Maintenance Department chipped in a little incentive for the students’ hard work—two hundred dollars for the class with the most participants, which was won by the freshman class. Even without the incentive, freshman Christina Timmons says she was “excited to help make the campus look better.” The students prepared the campus grounds for the upcoming commencment and summer camps.

Behind the scenes of this year’s event was Carrie Ferguson, who coordinated faculty and staff helpers. During the day, each class had two maintenance members to give them direction and keep them on task. President Jeffery, along with his wife, also moved from group to group, giving encouragement.

Campus Appreciation Day provided a way to promote campus unity, clean up the grounds, and to enjoy a day outside in the sun with no classes!
