Little Women, Big Show

Little WomenThe stage crew is working hard, and the performers are practicing late for Baptist Bible College's opening of Little Women the Broadway Musical on October 26. The musical, based on the novel by Louisa May Alcott, written by Allen Knee and composed by Jason Howland and Mindi Dickstein, will be performed under the direction of the school's Dr. Brian Maxwell.

Joel Smith, who will be playing the part of Laurie, racked his brain, added numbers, and estimated that he has been putting in about 25 hours a week for the last couple of weeks in preparation for next week's performances. The rehearsals primarily consist of one major task taking place center-stage while other members of the cast and crew work on numerous side projects.Lights must be adjusted, props must be set, and hair and make-up must be prepared for the actors to do their part successfully.

The acting is only part of this year's fall performance. The musical aspect of the play requires an incredible amount of work as well, including rehearsals include vocal warm-ups, pitch adjustments, and other issues that are commonly involved in musical performances.

This year's performance is certainly expected to be noteworthy.  With less than one week until opening night, the cast and crew are tired and anxious.  Joel Smith stated: "I'm very confident about how the performance will turn out, but we're still working very hard at it."
