Racing for the Cure

Baptist Bible College & Seminary was pleased to participate in the sixteenth annual Komen NEPA Race for the Cure, part of the largest series of 5K runs in the world. BBC&S assembled its largest team ever, exceeding 40 participants. This is the sixth year in which BBC&S participated in the Race, which was held on September 9.

Approximately 6,000 local individuals participated in this year's Race. BBC staff member Janet Lantz said: "I am a one year survivor so this was my first time racing. I was overwhelmed by the number of people participating and the community support. It was a really good day of celebration. Survivors wore pink T-shirts; it was really something to see people who had been through the same thing."

Student Ashley Nichols remarked: "It was encouraging to run for one cause. My fiance and I know a lot of people who have been touched by cancer.

Student Activities secretary Meg Thompson largely orchestrated the event. BBC faculty member Sheryl Hartley runs in the Race every year. She said: "BBC's involvement in the event would never have grown to the size that it has without Meg's excellent organization and promotion. I am very thankful for the work that she has done."

The Race for the Cure is part of the Susan G. Komen Foundation, an institution dedicated to fighting cancer by supporting research and community-based outreach programs. For more information on the Race for the Cure, click here.
