Urban ministries focus of three-day conference
Urban ministries was the focus of this year's three-day Global Ministry Conference at BBC, a special time to engage students, faculty, and local leaders in learning, discussions, and application.
"Brilla: Ilumina La Ciudad" was the theme for the February 12-14 event on campus. Spanish for "Shine: Light Up the City," the conference explored ministries in urban settings. The city presents many exciting opportunities and unique challenges. Whether in America or overseas, millions of people are in need of the light of the gospel of Jesus Christ in their cities.
"When you minister to people, I learned more about how you have to have compassion and put aside any faults and not judge them for it," said Meagan Jones, a junior Early Childhood Education major from Milton, PA.

Regular classes are not held during this special time. The focus of conferences in future years will be on varied global ministries (2015), global church planting (2016), and efforts in Third World and developing countries (2017).
Held annually on campus, the conference hosts a variety of special speakers, missionaries, and leaders from many areas and organizations.
Among the 2014 speakers was Dr. Charles Ware, President of Crossroads Bible College in Indianapolis. Crossroads is a biblically conservative evangelical institution dedicated to training Christian leaders to reach a multiethnic urban world. Dr. Ware speaks in many venues and serves as a consultant on racial reconciliation and leadership.
"One of the real passions God has laid on my heart is the next generation of leaders," Dr. Ware said. "I trust by the grace of God I can encourage the students here that God loves them, that He has saved, He loves them, He indwells in them, empowers them, equips them, and that through His grace and His power, they can impact their generation for the glory of God."
Among those benefitting from the special time was Joseph Parkinson, a junior Specialized Ministries major from Port Orchard, WA.
"In my workshop with Dr. Ware, he emphasized for us to be more intentional in urban ministry," Joseph said. "Ministry isn't going to come to you; you got to go out and do it."
