I was born into a missionary family in Nairobi, Kenya. With that being said, I have lived in seven different countries and have visited over a dozen countries on five different continents. I proposed to my wife in a landmark of Toronto, the Casa Loma. We were married in August 2008. We have two children, Lyla who is 3 years old, and Malachi who is 3 months old. I enjoy camping, travelling, photography, road trips, and ice cream. My claimed ethnicity is African American.
The biggest career decision I ever made happened at 5 years old. My parents were serving as missionaries in central Africa (Congo) when I began a journey of knowing Christ as my King and Father. While you won't find "career counselor" in a list of God's characteristics, I have learned and seen that God's hand was always directly involved in orchestrating my life events to bring me to where I am today and where I will be in time.
I could go on into great detail about how God served as an "admissions counselor" to lead me to Appalachian Bible College or to be a recruiter for Baptists For Israel Institute. God is also a "match maker" and this is a story I love to share. He used Kara, my wife, to lead me to the graduate counseling program at BBC. It was there God used a friend to connect me into my first professional position in the counseling field. He was constantly affirming the track of my life and blessed my labors with more work and responsibilities.
There are legitimate and real questions that need real answers, such as: Will I be able to find a job that can pay off student loans or provide for a family? Regardless of your school, degree, or diploma, the answer will be found in how you choose to pursue your career. A career is more than a job or the next step. Your career is an opportunity to put the gifts, skills, and interests God has given you to work for His glory. When you think about it, your career should have more to do with worship than be a tool to make money. Choosing the right career for the future is about making godly decisions today.
I was serving as an assistant manager for Scranton Counseling Center and as a mental health crisis worker at Geisinger CMC hospital when I met with (Assistant Provost for Student Development) Roddy Hannah. For five years I served in the clinical counseling field, but my heart was progressively moving toward a biblical model for helping others. Roddy liked my passion to impact others for Christ and saw value in my administrative work in the counseling field. In October 2013, I transitioned to BBC Career Services and opened two biblical counseling ministries in the community. Roddy might have helped me secure the position at BBC, but it was God who brought our paths together and it is God who will continue to direct my career path with the daily decisions I make for Him. Knowing Him makes all the difference.
