Summer Golf Tournament set to continue annual tradition

Connecting with friends and building new relationships are among the benefits of BBC&S' annual summer Golf Tournament.

The special two-day event is June 13-14. It begins at Sand Springs in Drums, PA, on Thursday and continues Friday at Scranton Municipal Golf Course near Lake Ariel, PA.

The registration fee is $190 if paid before May 14. The cost is $200 after that. For details, go to

Dick Blades, a retired pastor from Georgetown, DE, is the featured speaker at the Thursday evening banquet. Dick is one of two golfers who have been coming every year the event has been held. The other long-time player, Harry Hicks, is from Collegeville, PA.

"I enjoy getting to know the guys," said Gary Compton, who has served as director of the event since 1994."A lot of them come back and I look forward to seeing them each year."

Golf Package
The package includes 36 holes of golf, a cart, four meals, and Thursday night's lodging. Prizes will be awarded for various specialty contests. Tournament trophies and giveaways are also included. A $15,000 top prize for a hole-in-one is also featured.

Golfers can also participate in a "mulligan sale" to raise money for the BBC Defenders golf team.

Golf TournamentRegistration starts at 10 a.m. on Thursday at Sand Springs. Play begins at noon after lunch. A dinner buffet, program, and awards are included in Thursday's activities.

Players begin with a shotgun start on Friday at 8 a.m. at Scranton Municipal Golf Course. The tournament concludes lunch and awards.

The play format is "Captain and Crew," with each team playing the best ball from tee to pin. Teams consist of at least three players.

President's Golf Classic each May
A special golf event in May continues a tradition of raising money for student scholarships at BBC&S through play at a championship-caliber golf course.

The President's Golf Classic, held annually in Northeastern Pennsylvania, has raised more than $800,000 for scholarships since 2005.

The next President's Golf Classic is May 20, 2013 at Glen Oak Country Club in Waverly, PA.
