Powerful performances mark spring concerts

Strong performances of American folk classics were featured during three special Spring Concerts produced by the BBC Department of Music.

Continuing a tradition of excellence, the Concert Chorale, Chamber Singers, and faculty and staff vocalists and instrumentalists performed a variety of traditional folk pieces. Selections included "Shenandoah," "Buffalo Gals," "Cindy," and "She'll be Comin' 'Round the Mountain.

"The musical selections for this concert were very different from those of the past," said Cassie Winkert, a senior Music Education major from Highland, MD. "I think it is important to offer an experience like this so we can learn to appreciate different styles of music, all that ultimately go back to our Creator."

BBC&SSpecial Venue
The Friday, April 19 and Saturday, April 20 concerts were held in the Murphy Memorial Library in Jackson Hall, a unique venue offering strong acoustic qualities.

Both the Concert Chorale, under the direction of Dr. Larry Kauffman, and Chamber Singers, directed by Dr. David Harris, travel widely for performances across the United States. Additionally, Chamber Singers has made visits to the Philippines, Ireland, Jamaica, and South Africa.

"I have really enjoyed getting to build relationships with the people that I sing with," said Asa Bartos, a junior Pre-Seminary major from Knoxville, TN. "I think it is important that we as a culture not only consume music through media and entertainment, but that we have channels through which we can produce music together and reflect the glory of God."
