Four inducted into Hall of Honor
Four former BBC Defenders and Lady Defenders athletes were recognized during a special banquet in February, marking the 2013 class of the Athletics Hall of Honor.
Former athletes, friends, families, and fans were in attendance.
The four inductees were presented with plaques in celebration of the recognition. Identical plaques will be added to the Athletic Hall of Honor wall in the Phelps Student Center.
See photos of the event here.
Activities continued throughout the weekend including recognition of past players during halftime of the Saturday men's and women's basketball games.
BBC's 2013 Athletics Hall of Honor inductees are:
Coach Sherrie Holloway (85, 10)
Sherrie served as head coach of the Lady Defenders for 20 years beginning in 1987, compiling a 305-239 record. Her teams won regional championships, were national runner-up three times, and participated in 10 NCCAA Division II East Region Finals, with two 20-win seasons. Coach Holloway influenced countless lives as a mentor, leader, and friend. As a student at BBC from 1981-1985, she was an all-around force, playing every position on the team.
Zac Wilcox (82, 87)
Zac played basketball for the Defenders from 1978 to 1982. He is the fifth leading scorer all-time, with 2,106 points. His play was instrumental to the Defenders winning the NCCAA II National Championship in 1978-79. Zac was a three-time NCCAA All American, an award he received in his sophomore, junior, and senior seasons. He averaged 16.5 points per game and 8.2 rebounds per game. He shot 59.4 percent from the field over his career.
Rich Meister (75)
Rich wrestled for the Defenders from 1971 to 1975. His .950 winning percentage is tops all time among BBC grapplers. During his four years at BBC, he achieved an incredible record of 53-3-1. In his sophomore year, Rich was undefeated in 21 contests. His 37 career pins puts him near the top at BBC.
Jason Meister (03)
Following in his father Rich's footsteps, Jason Meister made a name for himself as well. Wrestling for the Defenders from 1999 to 2003, Jason leads all BBC wrestlers with 146 career wins. In his four years, he compiled a record of 146-20, including a perfect 34-0 season his senior year. He won a National College Wrestling Association title his freshman and senior year, and finished third his sophomore and junior season.
