Basketball teams set to grow this season

Defenders and Lady Defenders basketball teams have started their fall campaigns, with the young squads set to grow as the year progresses.

The men's team is off to a 1-2 start, with their first home game set for Saturday, December 8 against Cabrini College.

The team and Head Coach Mike Show aim to get back to the Colonial States Athletic Conference playoffs this year, something the team hasn't done since 2008-2009, their first year in the conference.

BBC&SThe trio of Luke Peterson, Dan Dodd, and Jordan Greve is the anchor for the team. Peterson made his mark from the beginning, scoring over 600 points in his first two seasons. Dodd is another strong scorer and dominant force for the Defenders as he builds off his 39-point game against Keystone from the end of last year. Greve provides the team with the ability to score well with his shooting range.

Freshman Dan Decker also looks to make an impact on the team. Abe Valentine will have a huge impact, too, with his physical toughness at the guard spot. David Osborn, having not played for four years, is looking to add energy. Key returners Nate Wiersma and Kyle Pannbaker will provide experience and help with scoring.

Lady Defenders Set to Rebuild
The women's team lost four of five of starters from last year, giving Head Coach Amber Jacobs the challenge of rebuilding. There are three returning players and the rest are new to basketball in the collegiate level.

The team is off to a 0-4 start. Its next home game is Saturday, December 1 against Notre Dame of Maryland University.

BBC&SThe 2012-2013 squad is anchored by senior Kelly Bargfeldt, who will be heavily involved in scoring and providing leadership for the defense. Chi Boggs is another key player for the Lady Defenders. Her ability to score and aggressiveness will be helpful.
Returning sophomore Alyssa Cole will support the defense, knocking down open jump shots and helping to force turnovers.

New players are already stepping up and quickly gaining ground. Maeghin Mueller and Megan Wagner have a lot to add to the team with their height and have great potential to score. Morgan Jones' ability to rebound will significantly help the team. Freshman Carissa Erdman will provide some help at the guard position.
