Special Christmas tradition draws students, faculty, and staff

A longstanding BBC&S tradition continued with the Christmas tree lighting ceremony in the Jackson Hall Rotunda, a special time for students, faculty, and staff to celebrate the beginning of the holiday season.

Along with the November 27 lighting of the tree, those celebrating enjoyed refreshments, singing songs of the season, and listening the Christmas story.

BBC&SPresident and Mrs. Jeffery, hosts of the event, also enjoyed posing with students for photos in front of the lit Christmas tree.

Many attending dressed in festive Christmas gear, including sweaters, hats, and headbands. The Underground Café rewarded anyone wearing red or green with a coupon.

Decking the Halls
The tree, selected and transported to Jackson Hall by BBC Maintenance team member Ross Janowski, is a nine-foot Douglas fir. It stands in the windows of the Rotunda, nicely visible to those inside and outside the building. It is decorated with white lights, candy canes, and ribbon.

Traditionally, festive decorations are added to many areas across campus, from large wreaths on the Rotunda windows to garland wrapped around the light posts.

Administrative and faculty offices in Jackson Hall are already decked out for the holiday with lights, wreaths, and greenery. Additionally, students are encouraged to "deck the halls" and trim their rooms as part of a campus-wide dorm-decorating contest in December.

Special Concert
The BBC Music Department's Winter Concert, another Christmas tradition on campus, is set for December 14-15. Three concerts—one on Friday night and two on Saturday— feature music and songs to highlight the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ.

The concerts include performances by the Chamber Singers, Concert Chorale, and others.
