Students serving around globe this summer

China, Peru, Macedonia, and South Africa are among the destinations of short-term mission trips this summer for BBC students.

More than two dozen students are serving and leading overseas in cross-cultural ministry experiences. The summer break gives students the opportunity to put into action what they have learned in the classroom. Baptist Bible College & Seminary

Each summer, BBC students are involved in hands-on learning and global leadership opportunities both in the U.S. and internationally.

Several individuals and teams are leading in camps, churches, and internships around the United States as well. Read about more students serving here.

Growing Faith Overseas
BBC Associate Professor John Jackson, who also serves as Director of Short-Term Ministries, is leading students in South Africa through June 3. Students are joined by peers from Faith Baptist Bible College in Iowa.

The 22-member group is serving in Johannesburg, Kokstad, and Durban, South Africa. They are working with several local churches and an orphanage through service projects, evangelism, and children's ministries.

"It's a faith-building experience for our students from the beginning to the very end," Jackson said. "It is a joy to watch their faith increase as they return changed by God's Word and work."

The team is serving alongside Darryl and Casey Meekins, missionaries with the Association of Baptists for World Evangelism in Durban. The Phoenix Fellowship, where the Meekins serve, is hosting "ascension celebrations." The students are also helping with work on the church building.

Learning While Serving
Veronica Tipton, a 2012 BBC graduate and Women's Ministries major from Whitehall, NY, is spending the summer in Arequipa, Peru learning about missions. Partnering with church-planting missionaries Craig and Sue Querfield, Veronica is serving and supporting church members in Arequipa as she learns the language and the culture.

"I hope to build some deep relationships with the people I meet," Veronica said. "My desire is to help the church there continue to grow and reach Peruvians for Christ."

Additionally, four students are traveling to China to teach English as a Second Language for the month of July.

Two students will be part of the Missionary Apprenticeship Program, a component of the missions program at BBC. Sophomore Abigail Renno will be serving in the Dominican Republic and junior Hannah Strayer will be in South Africa.
