Assistant Professor in English

Janet Hicks is the Chair of the Department of English and Communications at BBC. She has been teaching for thirty years and joined the BBC team five years ago. Before coming here, she taught high school English, wrote curriculum, sponsored student-run yearbooks, and coached drama. “I made a decision to follow the Lord's leading by committing myself to serving in Christian education while an undergraduate because I believed in the total integration of a biblical world-life view into all I would teach,” she explains.

Mrs. Hicks' current work at BBC includes her responsibilities as chair of her department and being involved in the English Teacher Education program. She has been studying at Binghamton University and is in the process of writing her dissertation on the teaching of grammar and writing. She loves watching students discover important realizations in light of Scripture and new teachers explore all the possibilities of teaching.

Hebrews 12:1-2 are Mrs. Hicks' life verses: “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God” (KJV). She says, “They force me to keep my perspective and eyes on the Lord. They address my mindset and attitudes towards that which I do. They encourage my heart.”
