Defender sports begin spring seasons

BBC Defender Athletics is gearing up for the spring season, with women's softball, men's baseball, tennis, and golf ahead.

Here is a quick look at spring sports ahead:


Lady Defenders Softball
Coached by Associate Professor Dr. William Higley, the Lady Defenders begin regular season play Saturday, March 3 at Gallaudet University.

After finishing fourth in the Colonial States Athletic Conference last year, the team looks forward to another packed season, with 16 double-headers scheduled. Over spring break, March 10-19, the team will participate in tournament play at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic in Myrtle Beach, SC.

Defenders Baseball
The Defenders also begin play at Gallaudet University on March 3. Recently named Coach of the Year for the NCCAA II East Region, Coach Tony DeSanto is in his second year at BBC.

The team looks to build on last year's trip to the NCCAA East Regional Championship with a handful of new players and young talent. Over spring break, the team will travel to Fort Royal, Bridgewater, and Buena Vista, VA, to compete.

Defenders Tennis
The team is getting back into the swing of things after their first ever CSAC Championship game last year. Coached by Josh Arp, the squad returns three players, including last year's CSAC Rookie of the Year, Caleb Evans.

The Defenders will play in 15 matches this season. Home matches are played at Birchwood Tennis Club in Clarks Summit, PA.

BBC&SDefenders Golf
Coached by Assistant Professor Dwight Peterson, the Defenders return two key players --
Luke Peterson and Jordan Greve.

The team looks to build on momentum from its fall season for the coming five matches of regular season spring play, with players aiming to land a spot in the CSAC Championships in Delaware.

BBC competes in the CSAC and is affiliated with both the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III and the National Christian College Athletic Association Division II.
