Lady Defenders win NCCAA Division II National Championship

The BBC Lady Defenders soccer team posted three straight shutout victories in earning the NCCAA Division II National Championship on November 12, the sixth in school history.

The Lady Defenders defeated Manhattan Christian 2-0 and Northland International 3-0 before toppling Point University 1-0 to earn the title. The Lady Defenders also won NCCAA crowns in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2008. All have been led by Head Coach Chris Davis.BBC&S

Junior Erin Law (Londonderry, NH) scored the game winning goal for the Lady Defenders. It was the fourth goal of the tournament for Law, who was named Outstanding Player of the championships.

While Law provided the offensive power, senior Cierra Byron (Canal Winchester, OH) did not allow a goal throughout the entire tournament.

Senior Carly Harper (Ocean City, NJ) added to a solid regular season the award of Defensive Player of the tournament. Senior Sandy Richie (Lexington, MA) won the Michelle Akers Award, which recognizes excellence in competition, skill, academics, and Christian service during a player's career.

Along with Law, Harper, and Richie, senior Jackie Jennings (Warren Center, PA) was named to the All-Tournament Team.

The late run reversed an even season for the Lady Defenders, who posted a 9-8-1 record before the CSAC and NCCAA playoffs.

Throughout the year, the BBC Defenders compete in men's and women's cross country, basketball, soccer, and tennis. Defender teams also compete in men's baseball and golf, and women's softball and volleyball.
