Volleyball Excites Crowd In Home Opener

The Lady Defenders went 2-0 in their first home matches defeating Wilkes University and Lycoming College.

It only took the Lady Defenders three sets to defeat Wilkes University (26-24, 25-27, 25-28). Jessica White (Lakeland FL,) and Emily Gordon (Grand Blanc, MI) led the attack with 12 and 10 kills each. White seemed to find her groove early and continued her spectacular day into the Lycoming game.

Early on in the season, the Lady Defenders lost to Lycoming in five sets that went down to the wire. This afternoon, the team got another shot at Lycoming and took full advantage. Dropping the first set, BBC just barely slipped past Lycoming in the second set 26-24. At this point the crowd began to pour into the stands and made their presence known. With a sense of urgency, White and the Lady Defenders won the third set easily 25-16. During the fourth set, things began to get tense and Lycoming won 25-12, setting up another fifth set. Lycoming took the early lead and was up 9-6 at one point. Keeping their poise, BBC rattled off four straight points to take the lead 10-9. With the Lady Defenders one point away from victory and the crowd providing support, Lycoming committed an attacking error, with BBC taking the final set and winning the game 3-2.

Jessica White again led the team with 16 kills and 4 blocks. Hannah Griffith (Parma ,MI) chipped in with 13 kills and Laura Grace Hodupp (St. Petersburg, FL) tallied 11 kills as well. Hodupp was all over the floor keeping BBC in the rally.

With some confidence from the past four games, the Lady Defenders will take on Cedar Crest Tuesday at 7:00, again in front of their home crowd.
