Students reflect, share stories of summer missions
Seven student groups shared their hands-on summer ministry experiences in a special college chapel held September 2. The chapel featured missions teams involved in global Christian leadership in the U.S. and abroad throughout the summer.
Many BBC&S students and teams serve around the world each year. Still others serve in smaller groups or individually at camps, churches, and with other organizations.

This year, student groups spent time in places ranging from China, Mexico, and Romania to South Africa and the Dominican Republic.
Skills and Sports
Veteran missionary and Associate Professor John Jackson led a team of ten BBC students to South Africa. They were joined by 18 students from Faith Baptist Bible College in Iowa and worked with an orphanage of about 40 children. Students were able to see how God is working in churches, schools, and hospitals.
"We were all so different with so many personalities," said sophomore Kaitlyn Miller. "But we were one."
Three students spent a month overseas teaching English as Second Language in DongGuan, China. Aaron Contino, a junior Secondary Education major, taught a class of seventh graders at The Trinity Learning Center in DongGuan.
"It was really neat to see all of the things God did on our trip," Aaron said. "We had the opportunity to teach them all about God and His attributes, as well as teach memory verses for them to learn English."
The BBC Defender Women's Softball team spent a week in the Dominican Republic. Although their plans to play several softball games were dashed by rain, they still worked alongside SCORE International, a sports-based ministry. They spent time with children at orphanages, playing with them and teaching Bible lessons. They also interacted with townspeople in sugar cane villages.
"God doesn't need us but He chooses to use us," senior Veronica Tipton said. "We're just a small piece of this really huge puzzle."
Others who spoke in chapel included senior Ethan Patrick and sophomore Caleb Evans, who spent time in Puebla, Mexico; junior Adam LaMey and senior Clint Wandell, who served in Romania with three other students; and Ken Davis, Director of Church Planting at Baptist Bible Seminary, who gave an update on Project Jerusalem.
Serving at Home
RiSE, BBC's student worship team, ministered in several states. The ten member group is directed by Geoff Ellsworth and the Admissions Department.
Beginning in May, they the team travelled to churches, camps, and conferences in parts of the northeast and midwest, including Camp Patmos, Skyview Ranch, and Rhodes Grove.
Based on John 3:30, the nine-member team's focus is
"He must increase and I must decrease." The team was made up of several students including:
"God helped us do ministry and we were able to encourage hearts, disciple people, and pray with people," RiSE member Katie Kerr said. "We were just one part of what God has done this summer."
