Dawn Wilson: Making Good Choices

Dawn Wilson: Making Good Choices

Encouraged and inspired by her experience as a student at BBC, Dawn Webb Wilson ('71) has been able to use what she gained to minister to women through a variety of outlets.

Originally from Kokomo IN, Dawn gained her A.A. degree at BBC and recognized she has a heart for women and a love for writing and speaking. She has been able to incorporate her passions into a lifetime of service and ministry to women in need.Dawn Wilson

She established Heart Choices Ministries to strengthen and encourage women to make solid biblical choices. Together, she and her husband Bob also formed Pacesetter Ministries, a speaking ministry dealing with teen issues, family relationships, discipleship, and missions.

Despite a list of involvements and responsibilities, Dawn makes family a priority. She and Bob have been married for 37 years. They have two sons and three granddaughters.

Insight Questions

What led you to attend BBC?
My godly grandmother told me about the college. Her pastor, Ernest Pickering, became the college President. I was interested in apologetics, and the courses in the college catalog appealed to me.

What is a favorite memory of your time here?
I loved classes with Dr. Wendell Kempton. He encouraged me to think beyond the surface, pursue excellence, and be creative in expressing the truth of the Word of God.

How did BBC help to shape you and what you're doing now?
The strong emphasis on truth laid the groundwork for a lifetime of writing about things that matter for eternity.

During my years at BBC, I had three teachers who modeled courage - standing for what one believes - and it helped me to see that in action. Also, two female students stood against shallowness by pressing for things that matter. One supported a ministry to persecuted Russians; another took a stand for purity.

What are you currently involved in?
I am a speaker and author, the head of a women's para-church ministry, a researcher for author/radio host Nancy Leigh DeMoss at Revive Our Hearts Ministries, a ghostwriter for Dr. Ed Hindson at World Prophetic Ministries, a journalist with the Christian Examiner newspaper, Communications Director for Seasoned Sisters, and involved with another ministry that encourages evangelical women in leadership.

What is the ministry you have established?
I am the founder and director of Heart Choices Ministries. I encourage women to make choices with God's heart in mind, wise, godly choices aligned with the will and Word of God. I have a website: and blog, "Heart Choices Today" (

What led you to begin Heart Choices Ministries?
I saw women around me - even Christians - who were making foolish choices without considering the consequences. I wanted to share God's truth, encourage wise choices, and move them closer to genuine revival and biblical womanhood.

What have you accomplished?
Women's hearts have changed radically. When they realize their daily choices matter, they become more focused on making decisions that count for eternity. Heart Choices Ministries is also a platform for my speaking ministry - sharing in churches, women's groups, and women's retreats.

What challenges have you experienced?
The enemy has used health issues to slow me down, but I've found that when I minister in transparency, I have an authentic message that God uses in spite of me.

What have you enjoyed?
I love teaching and shepherding women, but my focus is to glorify God and enjoy Him. I've found that when I focus on those two things, I keep my life in balance. There are times of intense ministry and then times to relax in the love and grace of God carrying me.

What do you hope to accomplish in the future?
I wrote a book entitled "LOL with God: Devotional Messages of Hope and Humor for Women" with Pam Farrel, and I write a blog related to that ( I'm planning a series of books, Lord willing, to incorporate some of the Heart Choices concepts. I feel my biggest eternally focused contribution is writing and speaking to encourage women toward holy joy as they realize their position in Christ.

I am also the San Diego director of a ministry to evangelical women in leadership, and I want to encourage women to stand strong in their calling and lean hard on the Lord for strength. My prayer for all women is that we might "walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God" (Col. 1:10).
