Lady Defender camp features former WNBA players

Amber Jacobs, BBC's Head Women's Basketball Coach and Assistant Athletic Director , will be joined by her former teammate and WNBA star Nicole Ohlde at this year's Lady Defender Basketball Camp.

The camp, July 3-8, reunites Jacobs and Ohlde, who played together for four years while both were members of the WNBA's Minnesota Lynx.

"It is a thrill to have Nicole Ohlde joining us for camp," Coach Jacobs said. "She is a phenomenal basketball player and an amazing woman of God."

Nicole OhldeOhlde starred at Kansas State University and was that school's all-time leading scorer before moving to the Women's National Basketball Association as the first-round draft choice of the Lynx in 2004. She was traded to the Phoenix Mercury in 2009, where she won a WNBA title. She announced her retirement prior to the 2011 season.

"Nicole is grateful that God has given her this great gift to play basketball and has loved the experiences the game has provided her," Coach Jacobs said. "She rests upon her favorite verse which is Proverbs 3:5-6, 'Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.'"

Lady Defender Basketball Camp is for students in grades 8-12. Players will gain instruction, participate in three-on-three and team competition, and take time for chapel and growth in God's Word. Coaches are welcome to attend with their students.

Five Weeks of Camps
BBC is hosting five weeks of sports camps in basketball and soccer this summer, building on a tradition of growing both athletic skills and spiritual character.

Defender sports camps and Big Blue day camps give young athletes focused attention to improve athletic abilities in their sport. Residence camps allow students to spend a week living on campus while Big Blue camps teach sport fundamentals to local children up to eighth grade.

In both camps, students receive sound instruction and spiritual training as they spend time with veteran coaches and dedicated college athletes.

The schedule is:
Big Blue Basketball Camp: June 20-24
Defender Basketball Camp: June 26-July 1
Lady Defender Basketball Camp: July 3-8
Defender and Lady Defender Soccer Camp: July 31-August 5
Big Blue Soccer Camp: August 8-12
