Wayne Stevens: Creating and Leading

A love for building and creating drives Wayne Stevens. He also enjoys teaching and leading others.

As BBC&S' Director of Facilities and leader of the maintenance team on campus, he is able to pursue all of those interests, using his skills and gifts to benefit others.

Wayne StevensA native of Northeastern Pennsylvania, Wayne was raised in Moscow and has been a resident of Newton Township for the past 12 years. He and his wife, Lisa, have five children - Katie, Samuel, Ian, Reggie and Michi.

Wayne has been in the construction business for 25 years. Before coming to BBC, he was a self employed builder and remodeler.

I wanted to move to a supervisory position because I like to teach. I remember praying for an opportunity to have a job that was more of a supervising role and less working hands-on with tools. I didn't actively look for that particular job, but then I heard a position had opened at BBC&S and I applied.

My work on campus involves supervising and directing members of the maintenance department as they perform building projects or answer service calls regarding all buildings and grounds. I also am responsible for helping develop a budget for the department, making purchases, and doing other administrative business.

I am in charge of managing the Kempton Athletic Center project. This involves coordinating the work of the different trades working at the building and purchasing material and products. The challenge has been keeping up with and ahead of the project now that we have increased the pace of construction.

I own a Harley Davidson motorcycle and have been riding for three years. When we have some time, my wife and I like to ride. Mostly we enjoy our children's extracurricular activities and camping. I am a member of Parker Hill Community Church near campus. I sing on the worship team and am also a storyteller and host of the children's hour.

I was led to faith by a high school friend who invited me to Jackson Street Baptist Church in Scranton. After a couple of years of attending, I gave my life to Christ after a pulpit invitation.

I am a journeyman carpenter having been a member of Carpenter's Local No. 261 and most recently a self-employed builder and remodeler. My father was a journeyman carpenter and taught me a lot, so it seemed a natural fit for me. I graduated from Johnson College in Scranton with an associate's degree in building construction.

What I enjoy most about carpentry is creating something - whether it is an addition on a house or installing a new kitchen. My favorite thing is finish carpentry.

I enjoy the team mentality of all employees. But mostly I enjoy the men I work with in the maintenance department.
