Trustee Russ Phelps among those honored at special recognition dinner
A special celebration of employee and trustee service to BBC&S was highlighted by a tribute to longtime trustee Russ Phelps, who was honored for six decades of work on the Board of Trustees.
A native of Binghamton, NY, Russ began his time as a trustee in 1951. He started with BBC&S as treasurer for the school, then located in Johnson City, NY, in 1946.
"I've just tried to be faithful to what I was asked to do," he said.
Russ, 93, decided to end his active service on the board with the January meetings. Among those paying tribute to him at the September 27 dinner were his daughter, Debbie Phelps, and granddaughter, Nanette Phelps Fitch. Russ' son, Jim, was also in attendance.
"He has always been a man of purpose," said Debbie. "As I entered the business world, Dad's optimism and integrity always preceded me. What a legacy."
Also speaking were Jim Jeffery, President of BBC&S, and Bob Allen, who serves as chairman of the BBC&S Board of Trustees and has served with Russ Phelps for more than 40 years.
More than 20 employees and trustees at BBC&S were recognized for their years of service during the annual Trustees Dinner. The event was held in the Phelps Student Center, a facility named after Russ Phelps.

The annual dinner brings all faculty, staff, administrators, and trustees together for a special time of celebration and fellowship. The first phase of an expansion of the student center, the $4.5 million Kempton Athletic Center, is now under construction and will be open in fall 2011.
