More than 200 attend Golf Classic, Regional Event

The first-ever President's Golf Classic in Michigan and a unique Saturday Regional Event at a minor league baseball stadium near Grand Rapids brought more than 200 people together to connect with BBC&S and raise money for student scholarships.

The events September 17-18 offered unique opportunities, with both days providing time for old friends and new connections.

Next year, golfers can join President Jim Jeffery for the Golf Classic on September 12, 2011 at Thousand Oaks Golf Club in Grand Rapids. Designed by Rees Jones, this spectacular 7,128-yard course opened in 1999 and has a 74.1 USGA rating.

Golf at Pilgrim's Run
Nearly 70 golfers came out for the President's Golf Classic held at Pilgrim's Run Golf Course. Opened in 1998, it is listed as among the top public courses in the nation.

Golfers helped to raise over $24,000 for student scholarships. A highlight of day was a Closest to the Pin contest hosted by President Jeffery. This feature alone helped raise $1,800 for scholarships.

Prizes included an iTouch, a camcorder, golf equipment, and a 32-inch LCD television.

The Sound of MusicFoursome winners were:
1st Place: Tom Benefiel, Gary Moosey, David Parmerlee, and Scott Morter
2nd Place: Pastor Joe Daniels, Andy Summerfield, Dennis Thompson, and Scott Thompson
3rd Place: John Parschauer, Bill Hill, Don Gustovich, and Bob Faflik

Special Regional Event
On Saturday, alumni, friends, parents, and students got together to enjoy an endless snack and barbecue buffet at Fifth Third Ballpark, home of the West Michigan Whitecaps.

Nearly 60 high school students and their parents attended. BBC scholarships were given away along with a Wii game system, a free week at Teen Leadership Conference, and a free week at Junior High Boot Camp.

Those in attendance also enjoyed watching college football games on television and stadium tours given by Whitecaps staff members.

The West Michigan Blitz was a great opportunity for Michigan friends to re-connect with BBC. Michigan is home to more BBC students than all states except Pennsylvania and New York.

President Jim Jeffery is among many faculty and staff with strong connections to the Great Lakes State.
