BBC&S Welcomes New Additions

The summer months have flown by, and the beginning of the academic year looms on the horizon. Following a summer filled with Summer Camps & Conferences and preparing for new and returning students, the staff and faculty of BBC&S are getting ready for the new academic year.

The Seminary and Graduate School will begin classes on Monday, August 29, and the College resumes classes on Tuesday, August 30. This year as the students return, additions to campus will include more than new students and new roofs for Fletcher, Vibbard, and Thompson Dorms. The College will also be adding three new faculty members and two new Resident Directors.

Dr. Chuck Emert will be rejoining the Biblical Studies Division at BBC. Dr. Emert was previously employed by BBC from 1976-1987 before he left to serve at Christian Heritage College in San Diego, CA, where he was chairman of the Bible department. Dr. Emert has also taught at Bible colleges in Russia and Romania.

Caroline Burleigh (M.S.), who has worked as a second grade teacher, will be joining the Elementary Education department of the College. According to Elementary Education professor Sherry Wise, Miss Burleigh will be an excellent addition and will round out the Elementary Education team. Miss Burleigh’s focus in the department will be on the Elementary Education pedagogy courses, specifically math and science.

Rachel Wiren (M.S.) has over twelve years of experience teaching high school English. She also held the position of senior advisor and high school girls' volleyball and basketball coach. Her responsibilities at BBC will include overseeing the Writing Lab and teaching World Literature and freshman composition and expository classes. Professor Janet Hicks of the English department spoke well of Miss Wiren saying: "She is going to add energy, and she will be a motivating influence as our freshman students make the transition into college."

Christen and Ketcham Dorms will both be receiving new Resident Directors this year. Christen Dorm's new R.D. will be Ronnie Chastain. Ronnie and his wife Christina have two children, Roman and Rachel. Ronnie will be adding the role of R.D. to his existing role as Athletic Trainer for the College. Tim VanDalen, a BBC ('01) alum, is the new R.D. for Ketcham Dorm. Tim and his wife Jen have been living and working in the area as Tim continues his studies at BBS.
