Students bring classic comedy to BBC stage
"Arsenic and Old Lace," a quirky, classic comedy by Joseph Kesselring, will be performed at BBC's Phelps Student Center in March.
A 16-member cast under the direction of Dr. Brian Maxwell is now preparing for three days of performances, Thursday-Saturday, March 4-6 at 8 p.m.
Tickets, on sale beginning Monday, February 15, are available at the BBC Box Office or by calling 570.585.9000. General Admission is $10. Discounted tickets are available to alumni and senior citizens for $6. All BBC students receive one free ticket and seminary students receive two free tickets.
Inside the play
The play revolves around Mortimer Brewster, a theatre-hating drama critic who must deal with his screwball family in Brooklyn, NY, as he debates whether to go through with his recent promise to marry the woman he loves.
Mortimer's two spinster aunts have taken to murdering lonely old men, as an act of "charity," by poisoning them with a glass of homemade wine laced with arsenic, strychnine, and "just a pinch" of cyanide. His brother believes he is Teddy Roosevelt and digs locks for the Panama Canal in the cellar of the Brewster home, which then serve as graves for the aunts' victims.
Members of the cast include:
Abby Brewster ... Hannah Sayre
