Urban ministries focus of special events
Hands-on work in multiple urban settings will be a key aspect of "VeraCITY," the 2010 Missions Conference at Baptist Bible College.
The theme of the February 10-12 conference is "Taking the Truth to the City." It's objective is to educate and equip students, faculty, and staff for Christian leadership in urban settings.
The event joins a unique spring break trip in March by students in Commons Hall, who will be working with an urban ministry in Chicago's South Side.
Five Northeastern Cities
On the second day of the conference, student groups will actively participate in five urban ministry locations in Binghamton, New York City, Scranton, Syracuse, and Wilkes Barre.
Hands-on work will include food distribution, evangelism, random acts of kindness, visitation, and more.
Details, including a schedule and resources, are online at www.bbc.edu/Missions_Conference.
In addition to the on-site participation, the conference includes special speakers, sessions on becoming involved in urban ministries, opportunities to meet with mission agency representatives, and a time of music, praise, and sharing experiences.
Speakers include John Jackson, Associate Professor; Ken Davis, Director of Church Planting at Baptist Bible Seminary; and Eric Wohner, Church Planter with Evangelical Baptist Missions.
To learn more about the conference, contact John Jackson at 570.585.9602 or firstname.lastname@example.org.

Chicago's South Side
BBC students from Commons Hall will be traveling to Chicago's South Side from March 12-21 to work with Sunshine Gospel Ministries, which seeks renewal through ministries of discipleship, mercy, and justice.
Sunshine's range of services includes after-school programs, literacy education, and work with youth. It operates from a nearly completed new facility, which was formerly six storefronts, near Washington Park on the city's South Side.
Students are raising money themselves for the "Rock the Box" project. The name comes from the desire to move beyond the campus environment.
