Volunteers lend a hand on campus
Summer brings the sound of improvements and repairs on the Baptist Bible College & Seminary campus, work completed with the efforts of the volunteers who come for a week to lend a helping hand.
The first Volunteers Week was held June 14-20. Throughout the week, friends and supporters of BBC&S completed projects around campus, including outdoor clean-up, removal of debris around the pond, and repairs in several residence halls.
A second Volunteers Week will be held on July 12-18. To learn more, go to www.bbc.edu/volunteers.
The weeks give families an opportunity to combine an affordable vacation with time together ministering on campus. Some projects require specialized skills while others simply require a spirit of service.
Marjon Selby and Sandy Carswell were working together throughout the first Volunteers Week, cleaning and restoring the massive oak front doors of Buckingham Hall.
Marjon, of Norristown, PA, has come to Volunteers Week the past six years.
"We heard about it from a friend and we thought what a good experience it would be for our kids," she said, noting she enjoys the time of fellowship and seeing friends she has made over the years.
Sandy Carswell and her husband Ron came to BBC&S from Vestal, NY. They have come to Volunteer Week since 2002 and regularly participate in many ministry opportunities together.
"We may not always have money to donate, but this is something we can do," Sandy said.
Organized activities are offered for children 12 and under and a nursery is also available. Housing for volunteers and their families is free, and meals at the on-campus cafeteria are just $15 per person for the week.
Because of the volunteers' service, the campus is ready to receive new students at the beginning of each school year.
