Men's Retreat builds strong leaders, new relationships

The 2009 Men's Retreat brought more than 250 attendees to Baptist Bible College, each challenged to become the leaders God wants them to be.

The group drew attendance from five states: Connecticut, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania.

The speaker for the main sessions was Pastor David Whiting from North Baptist Church in Rochester, NY. Pastor Whiting is a 1991 graduate of BBC and a 2001 graduate of Baptist Bible Seminary. He spoke about why Jesus is the only way to God, what it really means to be a Christian, and why forgiveness should be natural for Christians.

The theme for the conference, held May 15-16, was "Things I Wish Jesus Had Never Said". The topics related directly to that theme, including relationships, intimacy with God, and money.

Workshops were offered after the main session each morning and lasted until lunchtime with an optional workshop hour after lunch on Friday. Beyond the workshops, men participated in several tournaments, including volleyball, basketball, and ping-pong.

"BBC endeavors to be a ministry tool for the local church," said Dr. Don McCall, professor of Pastoral Ministries at BBC. "We are involved in equipping men in their personal walk with God, developing spiritual consistency in their homes, and effectively serving in their local churches. It helps greatly for men to come together and hear other voices emphasizing the truths of Scripture."

Main sessions were also translated into Spanish and special workshops were available for Spanish-speaking attendees.

Each year, a special offering is taken to benefit a student in the Pastoral Ministries program at BBC. This year's collection totaled nearly $2,300.

June 14-20 and July 12-18
