Lady Defenders win national soccer championship

The Baptist Bible College Lady Defenders have captured the National Christian College Athletic Association II National Championship, defeating a quick Southeastern University team 1-0 in Kissimmee, FL on November 17.

This season's successful title run is BBC's fifth since 2002. The Lady Defenders won four straight from 2002-2005 before being upended by Crown College in 2006.

Jessica Pollock's goal just over two minutes in proved to be the game winner. Carly Harper set up the goal on a corner kick that found Pollock for a header and a 1-0 lead.

The goal held up for nearly 88 minutes of play in an even struggle that saw nine shots on goal for the Lady Defenders and eight shots for the SU Fire.

Mel Williams had four saves in the game while Jenna Bartholomew (Ft. Meyers, FL) stopped five for Southeastern.

In 2007, the Lady Defenders went to the NCAA Division III national tournament as an automatic qualifier in lieu of the NCCAA II tournament.

"Our young ladies played with heart and passion and with a strong desire to glorify God," said Coach Chris Davis. "And it resulted in a victory."

BBC finished their season with 19-2-3 record. The season included a milestone for Davis, who passed the 200-win mark as head coach. Read more here.
