No one knows BBC history like former Dean of Students, Dr. Friedie Loescher. A 1959 alumnus, Dr. Loescher served BBC in a variety of top leadership and teaching capacities for 43 years. He played a vital role in the Office of Student Development’s establishment and development.

A word from Dr. Friedie Loescher:
“It was in August 1965 that the Lord led the Loeschers back to BBC, where I became Dean of Students. We were here two years and had an opportunity to go to Kansas State University on a fully financed doctoral program in Student Development. At the end of that year, BBC moved to Clarks Summit and we designed the dorm structure around a small-group philosophy and built five dorms that year.

From 1968 on, we have developed a variety of ministries within the OSD. We developed a quality athletic program, a total of 12 residence halls, a health service, a student affairs board and judicial committees for discipline, a counseling service, student activities and student leadership development, a small group ministry, drama, training for RAs and RDs and many other opportunities.

It has been my privilege to work under five presidents and develop a consistent, student-centered, Christ-centered philosophy of student development. In the early years it was called Student Affairs. In more recent years we have been known best as the OSD – Office for Student Development.

In my time here, we have helped train over 1,000 RAs and almost 100 RDs for their vital ministry in our dorms. Our office has been deeply involved in most of the summer ministries down through the years all the way from the Teen Leadership Conference weeks to the athletic camps. We have had a quality staff of people who have made all this happen beginning in 1965 until the present.

The construction of the Student Center in 1972 was an important contribution toward the goals of OSD. Many faculty down through the years have been involved in student life and activities and have helped the OSD develop a positive image.

The Lord has richly blessed BBC and the OSD as thousands of students have experienced great days on the campus of BBC.”
