In a world that continues to lose sight of God as Lord and Creator, we need educators who will consistently point their students to His sovereignty throughout history and in current society. Our Social Studies Education program will enable you to do just that.

You’ll study topics like government, sociology, economics, history and geography under highly qualified faculty who are passionate about helping you influence the next generation for Christ.

Core courses
We give you a strong foundation to understand and apply biblical truth through 42 hours of Bible and theology courses. A required set of General Studies courses supplements that foundation and enables you to consider the world in which you will minister.

You will then build on this foundation with over 40 credit hours studying the specific disciplines of your field and determining how you can best apply your unique strengths, gifts, and abilities. The core courses of this program include the following:

Teaching Social Studies in Secondary Schools I&II
Western Civilization and Thought I and II
American History I and II
The American Regime
Philosophy of History
Economic Concepts
Polotics and the Christian Worldview
Global Cultures and Geography

Making the program your own
You’ll receive top-level instruction and also gain important practical experience through classroom aiding and observing. Your senior year will include two periods of observation and teaching, one in a public school and one in a Christian school. This student teaching will occur under the supervision of qualified teachers. You will also be visited, counseled, and evaluated by a college supervisor. Our Student Teaching Seminar will prepare you for this important part of your education.

Many options after graduation
You will earn a Bachelor of Science in Education with a major in Secondary Education, Social Studies. You will graduate having completed coursework equivalent to a double major in Bible and Education. You may elect to receive a B.S. in Bible instead.

You will receive certification from the Association of Christian Schools International to teach Social Studies in grades 7-12. You will also be eligible to apply for Pennsylvania state certification, which will allow you to teach in public schools. The state of Pennsylvania shares certification reciprocity with many other states, most likely enabling you to teach in the state of your choice.

Many graduates go further with master’s and doctorate degrees. Some have chosen to pursue their graduate studies at BBC's Master of Education program. Other graduates have attended various graduate schools to study a wide range of programs including history, political science, curriculum and instruction, counseling, and administration.

What they say
“I chose the Social Studies concentration so I could be better equipped to serve the Lord and have a degree in teaching. I would recommend this program to anyone who loves students and finds it exciting to be used by God to shape a young person’s life.”
- Jim Kosmack, BBC graduate, high school / middle school History, Geography, and Bible teacher at Bethesda Christian School, East Brownsburg, IN

“The biggest strength of the program is the faculty. They really prepared me for future ministry. Student teaching in both public and Christian school was a truly valuable experience. The best part of BBC is you can get your Social Studies education and you receive a Bible-based education that prepares you for life and ministry.”
- Curt Czarnecki, BBC graduate, high school / middle school History and Bible teacher at Faith Christian Academy, Martinsburg , WV
