As members of our vibrant community of musicians, you will enjoy an education designed to complete you both as artists and as Christian individuals. The Music Education program integrates an education in music with an education by the Creator of music.

Believing music’s highest purpose is that of bringing glory to God, the training you receive at BBC will provide a strong biblical foundation that will help you communicate this in a classroom. At the heart of an education in music is the private lesson. Our department offers lessons in voice, piano, woodwinds, brass, strings, and composition. Though demanding, this program rewards those who persevere.

Core courses
We give you a strong foundation to understand and apply biblical truth through 42 hours of Bible and theology courses. A required set of General Studies courses supplements that foundation and enables you to consider the world in which you will minister.

You will then build on this foundation with over 40 credit hours studying the specific disciplines of your field and determining how you can best apply your unique strengths, gifts, and abilities. The core courses of this program include the following:

Making the program your own
You will have many opportunities to grow as both a musician and a teacher. As a member of one of our three touring ensembles, Concert Chorale, Chamber Singers, or One Accord, and through other performance opportunities such as recitals, you will gain valuable musical experience. Students gain teaching experience in class and off-campus.

BBC recently chartered a collegiate chapter of Music Educators National Convention. This allows our Music Education students to have access to current events and trends in music education nationwide.

Many options after graduation
You will earn both a Bachelor of Music Education and a Bachelor of Sacred Music. You may elect to receive a Bachelor of Science in Bible in place of a Bachelor of Music Education.

The Music Education program encompasses grades K-12, giving you the option of teaching at the elementary, middle school, or high school level.

You will receive certification from the Association of Christian Schools International to teach Music in grades K-12. You will also be eligible to apply for Pennsylvania state certification, which will allow you to teach in public schools. The state of Pennsylvania shares certification reciprocity with many other states, most likely enabling you to teach in the state of your choice.

Many of our graduates become private studio teachers or continue their education at the graduate level. A few schools to which our students have been accepted include Westminster Choir College, Temple University, Syracuse University, and Eastman School of Music.
