ACADEMICS » DEGREES & MAJORS » Intercultural Youth Ministries

The world population of young people is exploding. It is the next great wave in world missions, and you can be equipped to serve and lead in this growing field.
The Intercultural Youth Ministries program will immerse you in the culture in which you’re working. You will spend a full academic year, including a summer, in a different county, taking your classes online as you also learn outside the classroom.

You will be mentored in a location such as Spanish-speaking South America or English-speaking Africa. You will learn youth ministry strategies while learning from and with nationals.

This is not just a “junior-year overseas” program. Through this unique opportunity, the culture will impact you, shape you, and sharpen the focus of your major.

Young people worldwide need godly mentors who will invest in their lives and consistently point them to the Word of God. You will be prepared to be a discipler as well as a teacher wherever God leads you

Core courses
We give you a strong foundation to understand and apply biblical truth through 42 hours of Bible and theology courses. A required set of General Studies courses supplements that foundation and enables you to consider the world in which you will minister.

You will then build on this foundation with 42 credit hours studying the specific disciplines of your field and determining how you can best apply your unique strengths, gifts, and abilities. One full academic year will be spent overseas, with your BBC coursework completed online as you also learn outside the classroom. The core courses of this program include the following:

Cross Cultural Communications
Cross Cultural Evangelism
Cultural Anthropology
Dynamics of Discipleship
Family Life of the Ministry Leader
Foundations of Ministry Leadership
Personal Life of the Ministry Leader
Youth Evangelism
Youth Ministry Philosophy
Youth Ministry Seminar
Youth Ministry Strategy

Making the program your own
You will learn from professors who have firsthand experience ministering within youth culture. You will also be immersed in a foreign culture, learning from experienced missions professionals and nationals, who will shape your understanding from a practical ground-level. You will have countless opportunities to be involved in the lives of young people, at home and overseas.

You will learn to guide youth through the challenges of their teenage years and become a leader they can respect and trust. The Intercultural Youth Ministries program will prepare you to serve in settings worldwide as a youth pastor or in any other youth ministry capacity.

Many options after graduation
You will earn a Bachelor of Science with a major in Intercultural Youth Ministries. You will graduate having completed coursework equivalent to a double major in Bible and Intercultural Youth Ministries . You may elect to receive a B.S. in Bible instead.

You will be qualified to fill pastoral or missions positions in a church or parachurch setting. Your education in the Intercultural Youth Ministries program will also prepare you to pursue graduate or seminary-level education.

Mission agencies, such as Association of Baptist for World Evangelism, are seeking intercultural youth ministries professionals to be involved in a wide variety of settings. There is no shortage of career opportunities.
