Music Ministries

Music isn't just about the right note and tempo; it's about glorifying our Creator. Music can be used to encourage others, reach the lost, and praise the Lord. If you want to use your musical abilities to serve the Lord, you can prepare for that ministry right here at BBC!

The purpose of the Music Department at BBC is to prepare students for careers as ministers of music, worship leaders, or music educators in schools.

As part of the Music Ministries program, you will receive private lessons under the direction of our highly educated and skilled professors in voice, piano, flute, brass, violin, or viola. Every student also participates in the school's Wind Ensemble, Chamber Singers, or Concert Chorale, all of which appear off-campus in annual concert tours.

One of the strengths of our program is our music faculty's ability to give attention to you as an individual. Seventy-five percent of our full-time music professors have earned their doctorates in music, and they are ready and available to mentor and teach you. Our faculty and students are also actively involved in local church music ministries, which give them practical, hands-on application of the content they teach and study.

BBC annually presents an annual Christmas concert as an outreach to the community and an avenue for students to present the efforts of their work. Summer ministry teams, church music ministries, and student-led productions are other ways to gain further experience and glorify the Lord during your time at BBC.

No matter what ministry God leads you to, your experience in BBC's music program will enable you to share your love of Christ through your love of music.

Core Courses in the Music Ministries Programs

BBC gives you a strong foundation to understand and apply biblical truth through 42 hours of Bible and theology courses. A required set of General Studies courses supplement that foundation by enabling you to consider the world in which you will minister. You will then build upon this foundation as you complete over 40 credit hours, studying the specific disciplines of your field and determining how you can best apply your unique strengths, gifts, and abilities. The core courses of this program include the following:

•  Music Theory I-IV
•  Instrumental Composition and Arranging
•  Counterpoint
•  Applied Music Major
•  Junior and Senior Recitals
•  Music History
•  Conducting
•  Choral and Instrumental Methods
•  Choral or Instrumental Ensemble

A Church Music Internship is also required for five-year Church Music students. In this internship, you will have the opportunity to become involved in church music ministries under the supervision of a music coach.

What Happens After Graduation?

PhotoGraduates of the five-year Church Music program earn both a Bachelor of Science in Bible and a Bachelor of Sacred Music.

Graduates of the four-year Church Music program earn the equivalent of a double major in both Bible and Church Music and are awarded a Bachelor of Science in Bible.

A Minor in Music can be added to another undergraduate program to give you an introduction to music appreciation, performance, and ministry.

You will be prepared for a music pastoral position, or you can become a music ministry leader in a church or on the mission field. Many graduates of BBC's music programs have also become private studio teachers, professional conference musicians, conductors, and composers and have continued their education at graduate schools across the country. A few of the graduate schools to which our students have been accepted include Westminster Choir College, Temple University, and Eastern Michigan University.
