Music Education Program
 |
The Music Education program at Baptist Bible College is a highly demanding and highly rewarding program. As a student, your love for music will be deepened by the challenging instruction and personal commitment of faculty who are dedicated to your success. Our highly qualified Music department faculty offer private lessons in voice, piano, flute, brass, violin, or viola. You will find multiple avenues in which to develop both your God-given musical abilities and your teaching skills. Touring groups include the Wind Ensemble, Chamber Singers, and Concert Chorale, all of which perform on and off-campus in various forums. In addition to these opportunities, you will gain critical knowledge and experience through classroom aiding, observing, and student teaching.
Above all, the music education program at BBC provides you with the opportunity to integrate an education in music with an education of the Creator of music. For the believer, music is not human effort for human glory, but rather God’s creation for God’s glory. To effectively communicate this worldview in the classroom, students must be prepared with a strong Biblical foundation. In this program, you will be stretched and encouraged intellectually, personally, and spiritually while preparing for future ministry in music education.
BBC recently chartered a collegiate chapter of Music Educators National Convention (MENC). This allows our Music Education students to have access to current events and trends in music education nationwide. |

Core Courses in the Music Education Program
BBC gives you a strong foundation to think through what truth you will communicate as you complete 42 credit hours of Bible and theology courses. A required set of General Studies courses supplement that foundation by enabling you to consider the world in which you will minister. You will then build upon this foundation as you complete over 40 credit hours studying the specific disciplines of your field and determining how you can best apply your unique strengths, gifts, and abilities. The core courses of this program include the following:
Musicianship I-IV
Music Ensemble I-IV
Applied Music Major I-VII
Applied Music Secondary
Survey of Music History I-II

What Happens After Graduation?
Upon completion of the program, graduates will have completed coursework equivalent to a double major in Bible and Music Education, and will be awarded a Bachelor of Science in Bible.
The Music Education program encompasses grade levels K-12, giving you the option of teaching at the elementary, junior high, or senior high level.
You will receive certification from the Association of Christian Schools International, and you will be eligible to apply for Pennsylvania state certification, which will allow you to teach in public schools.
The state of Pennsylvania shares certification reciprocity with nearly every state so you will most likely be able to teach in the state of your choice.
Many graduates of BBC's music programs have also become private studio teachers while others have continued their education at graduate schools across the country. A few of the graduate schools at which our students have been accepted include Westminster Choir College, Temple University, and Eastern Michigan University.
