Math Education Program

Teachers of mathematics are in high demand. Concerns over math teacher shortages and the resulting impact on education quality are widespread. Reports from study groups have outlined how shortages of qualified math and science teachers affect the quality of education and the future of the nation as a whole, according to National Science Teachers Association.

Math education simply gives important lifelong skills and is essential for every student’s future. And at BBC, we couple equipping you with math education tools with our focus on an excellent biblical education and a passion for producing effective ministry leaders.

You will be equipped to greatly influence young lives through quality academics and a strong biblical foundation.

In our Math Education Program, we connect the content of your math courses to the material you will be teaching.

The program is best suited for students who have completed upper-level math classes offered at the high school level.

Core Courses in the Math Education Program

BBC gives you that strong foundation to understand and apply biblical truth through 36 hours of Bible and theology courses. A required set of General Studies courses supplements that foundation and enables you to consider the world in which you will minister.

You will then build upon that with 35 credit hours studying deeper math disciplines and determining how you can best apply your unique strengths, gifts, and abilities. The core math courses in the program include:

What Happens After Graduation?

Upon completion, graduates will have completed coursework equivalent to a double major in Bible and Math Education and will be awarded a Bachelor of Science in Bible.

You will receive certification from the Association of Christian Schools International to teach math in Grades 7 – 12.

BBC’s programs are accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (3624 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA, 19104, 215.662.5606) and the Association of Biblical Higher Education.

We are now pursuing state certification for the new Math Education Program. When granted, you would be eligible to apply for Pennsylvania state certification, which will allow you to teach in public schools. The state shares certification reciprocity with nearly every state, so you will most likely be able to teach in the state of your choice.

The Math Education Program also prepares graduates for the next step in their academic careers. Upon completion, you will be prepared to pursue master’s and doctoral degrees, including studies in the Christian School Education program at Baptist Bible Graduate School.

Real People

Audrey Barto“I appreciate the Math Education concentration because it is consistent with the mission of BBC as a whole. The program is teaching me how to take my love for mathematics and turn it into a tool to reach kids for Christ. If ministry is as important to you as math, then you should seriously look at BBC.”

- Audrey Barto, Carlisle, PA
John Best“One of the great benefits in the Math Education program is smaller class sizes. Even advanced math classes at larger schools can have large numbers of students. We offer an opportunity to work closely with faculty and provide a biblical worldview.”

- Dr. John Best, Associate Professor of Mathematics
Jessica Forman“I am in the Math Education program because I enjoy math and would love to teach it in the future. The program here at BBC really prepares you for doing that. Small class sizes enable you to get more personalized help, and the professors teach in a way that you can take what you learn to the classroom and be able to teach concepts in a comprehensible way. In addition to that, we have great Bible classes that prepare us for the future.”

- Jessica Forman, Elmira, NY
