Communication Ministries
 |
You want to connect with people, to reach out and influence others. More importantly, you want to have an impact for Christ. Does that sound like a tall order? It is! And BBC's Communication Ministries program is designed to prepare you for this exciting life of influence and service. You'll have the chance to study with professors who are passionate about using their skills as an outreach for Christ.
The BBC Communication Ministries program offers two different avenues of study: Writing and Drama. In the Writing emphasis, you will hone your proficiencies in written communication through interactive classes and the opportunity for involvement in publications such as The Anchor , the school newspaper, and The Tower, the school yearbook.
If drama is more your style, you'll find yourself in an environment that will stretch your acting and directing skills. Each year BBC hosts two major drama productions in addition to numerous student-led productions. Students gain experience in genres such as comedy, drama, musicals, classics, and contemporary works.
Art Communicates, an annual, on-campus celebration of the arts, is another opportunity for you to participate in the Communication Ministries program.

With either track, each student will participate in a required senior project or internship, which can include projects such as writing or directing your own play, directing a play in a Christian school, or interning at an off-campus television station, magazine, newspaper, or theatre company. The point is for you to combine communication and ministry while gaining knowledge from qualified professionals.
What Happens After Graduation?
Upon your graduation, you will have earned the equivalent of a double major in Bible and your chosen field. You will be prepared to enter ministries and careers pertinent to your area of study. Not only will you have gained intellectual knowledge, but you will also have hands-on experience to add to your résumé.
As a Writing emphasis graduate, you will be equipped for the role of writer or editor for magazines, newspapers, and ministry organizations. Some writing avenues you may choose to pursue include curriculum writing for schools or Sunday schools, website editing, writing and/or editing Bible study materials, or press release writing. The work you will have completed in your undergraduate years will serve as proof of your dedication and progress as a writer.
Directing or acting in church drama ministries, teaching in school drama programs, script writing, set design, or launching a drama outreach ministry are just a few avenues you can pursue after you graduate from the Drama emphasis program.
With either of these programs, graduate-level education is an option to consider. A few of the graduate schools that our graduates have chosen to attend include Bowling Green State University, Regent University, and Texas Tech University. Our graduates have also obtained career positions at organizations such as, LA Film Studies (Los Angeles, CA), Sight and Sound Theatre (Lancaster, PA), and WVIA Television (Pittston, PA).
With either program, you will study with professors and instructors who love God and love the subjects they teach. Most importantly, you will study your field of interest in light of God's Word and learn to reach others with His truth more effectively. If you excel in the area of communication, you will have opened the door to a vast number of careers and ministries.
As one of our professors so aptly expressed, the question isn't, "What can you do with a Communication Ministry degree?" but, "What can't you do with a Communication Ministry degree?"

Real People
"Theatre has been my passion for as long as I can remember. When you add that to my passion for Christ, there's no better place than BBC to learn how to integrate theatre into ministry."
—Carissa Wilcox, BBC student
"After completing the Communications program at BBC, I was able to smoothly transition to a career in the magazine industry feeling adequately prepared for the job. Between The Anchor campus newspaper, The Tower yearbook, and class assignments, BBC offered many writing opportunities that prepared me with the organizational, professional, writing, and editing skills a job in print media demands."
—Erika Bruckner, 2004 graduate and Associate Editor of Happenings Magazine
