About Dr. Lackey:
David Lackey served as a Bible and Christian Education professor at Tennessee Temple University for 14 years before coming to BBC. He was also an assistant pastor at Mile Straight Baptist Church in Soddy Daisy, TN for 12 of those years. There he directed church camps and taught the radio Bible class every Sunday. A second-generation teacher, his father taught at TTU for 18 years. He is a Tennessee Volunteer and loyal Southerner with the accent to prove it. Betty, his wife, and David met in high school. Their children are Amanda, an Expanded Functions Dental Assistant, and Eric, a sergeant in the U.S. Army who has completed two tours in Iraq, Ranger training, and Airborne training.

Insight Questions
1. What is your favorite book?
Any book that makes me think. I try to read widely so narrowing it down would be impossible.

2. What are your hobbies?
Woodworking, house repair (rough carpentry/electrical/plumbing), and reading.

3. Who has been your greatest spiritual influence?
Two men come to mind. My dad, Bruce Lackey, was a great example of the grammatical – historical method of interpretation in his teaching, preaching, pastoring, and parenting. He modeled it effectively a long time before I had it explained to me in college and seminary. The second was my former pastor in Tennessee, Al Goss. His example of shepherding the flock for the 12 years that I worked with him was truly biblical in every way.

4. What goals do you have for your students?         
I want them to have a thirst for and the tools to begin the life-long task of mastering the Word both in understanding and application.
