About Dr. Kauffman:
Born and raised in the farming and manufacturing town of Elkhart, IN, he met Margie, his bride-to-be (from Columbus, OH) in college. Married in 1970, they have three adult children - Jennifer, John, and Nathan - and two grandsons, David and Andrew.

Having devoted nearly his entire adult life to Christian higher education, Dr. Kauffman served on the faculties of three Christian colleges before joining the Department of Music at BBC in 1986. Although piano performance was his main focus through both graduate degrees, the rigors of his doctoral program and the demands and opportunities of teaching in small colleges have allowed him to move freely among several musical disciplines: music theory, music history, choral methods and directing, and piano pedagogy. He currently serves as director of the Concert Chorale, has a large studio of piano students (both majors and non-majors), and finds great satisfaction in accompanying and coaching student and faculty singers and instrumentalists.

A student of theology, history and philosophy, Dr. Kauffman takes great delight in helping his students connect their musical interests with all of life. A passion for physical activity sustains his energy for this multi-faceted career. Over 20 years ago he and his colleague, Dr. David Harris, discovered their mutual interests in running and bicycling. Thousands of miles "on the road" discussing books, church, family, and music have produced a deep and enduring friendship.

"I want my students to become “fully formed” individuals whose heads, hearts, intellects, and creative musical passions function harmoniously in joyous submission to God’s purpose for their lives. "
-Dr. Larry Kauffman
