February 2014 Update
Buddy & Jen Rathmell (1996)
After 17 years with Cadence International - where we learned to love, teach, and disciple others - we are now a part of Stop Slavery International, Inc. This organization was actually founded with a group of young military students during our 10 years in Okinawa.
We will always believe that Military students are the most innovative and amazing kids and our lives continue to live out their legacy. Our hearts are thankful that God called us to 1) BE military/DoD kids, 2) love and disciple them and 3) continue to be connected to them in this ministry. We are so blessed.
February 1 marked our first official day with Stop Slavery International. Our team consists of Alex and Jess Sartore, Peter Vanosdall (former students of ours from Oki) and a number of indigenous missionaries in Cambodia. It is our privilege to partner with a widow and a couple of orphans who are now “full-time staff” with Stop Slavery and are sharing their lives and the Gospel with their communities and villages. We are hoping to expand the number of Indigenous missionaries with Stop Slavery in both Cambodia and India in 2014.
What’s new and different?
As we expected, some donors have taken this opportunity to reevaluate their giving. We have lost some support. If you would like to continue or begin partnering in this work please go to www.stopslavery.org and click on Donate. Thank you so much.
We have begun a secret Facebook group for our ministry partners. As you can imagine, many of things that are happening in the human trafficking world cannot be made public. We are hoping this will be a more convenient way to keep you informed about what’s going on over here in South East Asia. If you are on Facebook, please let us know if you would like to be a part of this. We will also be emailing on a more regular basis.
Thank you for your prayers – God is dusting off some corners of our faith as we continue to move forward in what God has called us to here. We rest in your love and giving to us and thank God for your part in His work rescuing those so less fortunate than us.
We love you,
Buddy and Jen
