ALUMNI PRAISE AND PRAYER

February 2014 Update

Ron & Chris Self  (1977)

Dear Faithful Prayer Partners,

Thank you for your faithful prayers on our behalf during the past week.
We are thankful for your prayers for us last week as we held our annual Youth Summer Camp. We had a goal of taking a group of 100 from our church and daughter churches. We reached a total of 99 (I am not sure who the 100th camper was – who didn´t go!!), and were pleased to see how God provided the funds for each one and worked out potential scheduling conflicts with school registration dates.
We had a week of torrential rains, and by the end of the week about half of the camp was underwater. The brook at the back of the camp was also close enough to the cabins that we had to put sand-bags in the doorway! However, the water never came into the buildings, and our young people know how to have fun!!! – they played volleyball in the mud and soccer in what was almost a lake – and had the times of their lives! The rain really did not affect the camp in any significant way.
Meanwhile, the most important activity at camp – the preaching of the Word of God – was a great blessing. Our theme for the week was “Citizens of Heaven” based on Philippians 3:20-21. Isaiah Lewis came from Wisconsin to preach during the week and shared a series of outstanding expositional challenges from the Word of God. Our young people were greatly challenged and many decisions were made for the glory of God. We are grateful to Isaiah and his wife Liz for coming to minister to our young people during this week.
God also blessed us at the close of camp. Due to flooding and mud, the access roads into the camp were almost impassable. We were grateful that some of our church families came to camp with 4x4´s, pick-up trucks and a small trailer and took both the luggage and then the campers out to the paved road where our buses were waiting. We were thankful that we were able to get everyone out safely and without any great difficulty. Thank you for praying.
We enjoyed a great service on Sunday as our young people shared testimonies of how God worked in their lives during the week. Please be praying for them now, that they would put into practice in their daily lives the things that they learned during the week!
We continue to be thankful that our Wednesday evening Inductive Bible study groups are growing. Even last week with many away at camp, there were many who came to study the Word together.
Our church ministry year begins in March. There is much planning and preparation still to be done in the next few weeks. Please pray that God would give us wisdom and guidance as we make plans to minister to people´s lives and reach out to the unsaved during 2014.
Thank you for your faithful prayers on our behalf.

February 23 Update

Dear Faithful Prayer Partners,

Thank you for your faithful prayers on our behalf during the past week.
We enjoyed great services today, with good attendances and a great spirit in the church. We continue to preach our way through the gospel of Mark, observing Jesus´ absolute power over the wind and sea last week, and His absolute power over Satan this week. It is great to serve and worship an all-powerful God!
We had several visitors and repeat visitors today. Please pray for Jonathan. He was recently saved and when he came to church last week, he was living with his girlfriend. However, after understanding God´s view of that, he moved out this week and is committed to living for the Lord. Hernan and Silvia are the parents of Alan and Sasha, two young people who were saved a few months ago. Herman and Silvia are so impressed with the change in the lives of their children that they have decided to attend our church regularly. Please pray for their conversion.
Please be praying with us about the following ministry opportunities: Our growing Wednesday evening inductive Bible studies; the New Members class which begins on March 23; The church anniversary services in San Miguel on March 22; and the hospital ministry and the many needy families that attend that Bible study. Also be praying for Andrew and Romina as they prepare to begin a fall Bible Study in the work in Vicente Lopez.
The hospital ministry provides us with many opportunities to minister to many hurting families. Let me share a paragraph with you from Dr. Marcelo regarding a family that was with us on Tuesday. Dr. Marcelo shared this with our church family on Wednesday: “Let’s be praying of the family of Chiara. She is a 3-year-old girl who died yesterday after being hospitalized for more than a month after a traffic accident. In that accident both of her maternal grandparents died and her mother suffered multiple injuries, although she was able to survive and accompany Chiara for the last few days. This family is from the province of Mendoza and they have had to confront this terrible trial. Nevertheless on Tuesday they listened with great attention to the Word of God and were surprised by the message of the gospel. Today I said good-bye to the family and I was able to confirm that the seed of the Word of God has been planted in their hearts! Let´s pray that this seed would produce fruit a hundred-fold. The names of Chiara´s family members are Daniel - her father, Maria Eugenia - her mother, and Romina - her aunt.”
Please continue to pray for the weekly ministry in the hospital.
On Monday night I will be traveling with 5 Argentina men to Ohio and Michigan for a few days of presenting the ministry in Argentina in the churches there. We will be ministering in 3 churches in the area, and later in a church in California, and will also enjoy a couple of informal gatherings over a 10 day period. Please pray for travel mercies, for our men as they minister, and then pray that this will be a great growing experience for our men, as they minister and see sister churches in the U.S.
If you live in northern Ohio or southeastern Michigan and would like to attend one of our meetings, please let me know and I will get you the needed information! Thank you for your prayers.
Please pray for Andrew and Mati, who will be preaching in my absence and for Dr. Marcelo and Mati as they lead our Wednesday evening inductive Bible studies. I would also appreciate your prayers for Chris as she chose to remain behind for these days. Please pray for God´s protection and blessing.
Please be praying for Mark, Anahi and Sophia. They plan to arrive on the field in early April. Pray for them as they pack, take care of final paper-work and say good-bye to the friends they have made in the past few years.
Thank you for your faithful prayers on our behalf.
