February 2014 Update

Dave & Karen Hamrick  (1994)

December came and went in a manner not leisurely in the least! We have had blessings and events galore! Karen’s 50th birthday started off our month of activity. We then drove to Michigan for our first missions conference in the US since returning from the field in June. It was a pleasure to present our new ministries at the Ambassador Baptist Church in Royal Oak, MI, longtime supporters for the Hamricks.

Karen and I enjoyed hosting a Christmas celebration at our home with the CEIM department. We always look forward to the seasonal school functions, and the Christmas concert at Zac’s school did not disappoint. Karen and I celebrated 21 years of marriage and enjoyed a quick get-away to Longwood Gardens. We praise the Lord for His faithfulness as we are no strangers to failed marriages around us.

With much happiness, we picked up AJ from Baptist Bible College to bring him home for nearly a month long school break. The time went by quickly, but we enjoyed every moment. The family packed up the car and drove to snowy, cold, electric-less Michigan for Christmas with the family. Please note; we did not despair! In fact, this was our third Christmas in a row without electricity! We give thanks to God for His provision and protection and a wonderful celebration with family and long-time friends. We left Michigan to drive to the Indianapolis side of the family and again, experienced a delightful and festive reunion with Karen’s folks. We praise the Lord for opportunities to spend time with each of our families during this Christmas season.

This new year brings with it new opportunities for our family. This weekend, Grace Baptist Church here in Lewisberry near our home, is hosting the Good Soil Evangelism seminar. Through the seminar, we hope that those attending will not only better understand the Gospel story, but that they will be equipped to share God’s story of redemption shown from Genesis to Revelation. Dave will co-teach, Zachary will attend, and Karen will help with food provisions. Pray that many will sincerely embrace the Gospel and commit to sharing God’s story with at least 1 other person in 2014.

Zachary has an additional opportunity to take God’s Word to others. He and Karen will join with ABWE missionaries, the Jeff Raymond’s, to present a 1 hour weekly Good News Club at the elementary school next door to our home. Pray that God would prepare fertile soil in the minds of these children, that they would want to attend and that they would commit their young lives to growing in Christ.

I will be in Washington, D.C. next week learning to be a trainer for the Crucial Conversations course ABWE offers to our pre-fielders, staff, missionaries, and international co-workers. Karen and I were students in this course last fall. The following week, I will be at Baptist Bible College in Clarks Summit, PA, for their annual Global Ministry conference. I look forward to leading students in an understanding of how to get from their classroom to the mission field. Will you pray for these opportunities that we have to be equipped and to equip others for the Gospel?

We are still getting adjusted to the ‘new’, but looking at God’s work in our lives over the last year – we are amazed and we realize how good our God is as stated in Psalm 34:8 “ Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.”

Dave, Karen, AJ and Zac

Ephesians 6… “Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.”
