August 2013 Update

Pedro & Stephanie Garcia  (2002)

Dear Praying Friends,
Tomorrow September is upon us, and with it a myriad of activities and celebrations in honor of Chile's independence. It promises to a be a busy month in life and ministry. We continue to be so thankful for the visit of Pedro and Kathy Garcia, Pedro's parents, who daily bless us with their joy and service. We cannot express enough what a help it is to have the presence of grandparents at home when we are called upon frequently to do visitation, discipleship, counseling, etc. outside of the home.

We also thank God for the safe return of Pastor Hugo Armijo with daughter Debora this week. Please continue in prayer for their family as their readjust to life in Iquique. They have hit the ground running with several urgent matters at church. Yesterday morning they called to alert us to a loss in the church family. In our last prayer update we mentioned Nelson and Jacqueline, a couple from our church facing serious health struggles. Jacqueline has since had her knee replacement surgery and is bedridden during recovery, while Nelson remains hospitalized due to a lung infection. Jacqueline's 88-year old father had been living with them and attending our church prior to her surgery. On Sunday he traveled to another daughter's home six hours away, where he died suddenly of a heart attack Friday morning. As burial must take place within 24 hours in Chile, neither Nelson nor Jacqueline is able to be there and of course this is very difficult for everyone.
Wherever God is working, the enemy will be fighting back and we certainly sense this in these days. The past two Sundays at church we have had close too 100 in attendance, yet at the same time some of our most faithful people are experiencing difficult struggles. Please pray for godly wisdom for Pedro and Pastor Hugo, and for Stephanie and Debora, to be able to share Biblical encouragement and help in these moments.
Two quick updates: First, it seems that the need for MK workers for the missionary retreat may be filled - PTL! Second, regarding the house possibility we are taking a step of faith and paying for an appraisal to see if it meets codes and is a realistic option. We are also applying for a mortgage with a Chilean bank. Please continue to pray that God will make His will and provision clear in this matter.
Thankful for your prayers and God's purposes,
Pedro & Stephanie
