ALUMNI PRAISE AND PRAYER

April 2013 Update

Sue Lodico  (1983)

Dear Friends and Family,

I trust all of you had a nice Easter with your family and friends.
It is hard to believe that today is the first of April….and spring has arrived in the northern hemisphere and fall has arrived here in the southern.

A lot has happened since my last prayer letter, so I will begin to fill you in on the news.

December

Summer camp season was a huge success. I had the privilege of working in the kitchen for the two weeks of camp. I was still able to have contact with the campers and counselors as they came in for meals and snacks. Keeping them well fed is an important job. I also enjoyed getting to know the other kitchen staff members. I worked with two different teams.

December also found me house sitting for an ABWE family. It was a great time to rest and relax and spend time with some friends around the area. A highlight was having some friends from the Ballito area come up and we went to the game park. (I love going to the game park). We saw a lot of elephants that day….in fact at one point in the park we were totally surrounded by elephants. It was exciting and scary all at the same time. We praise the Lord that He took care of us and protected us from them.

January

In January, I had the pleasure of running a kid’s program for another mission agency’s mission conference. One of the teens from the Youth Group at Community Connection was my helper for the week. We had 10 MKs that we were responsible for. They were a great group of kids and the week just flew by. I love investing time in the lives of MKs. I still think they are some of the most special kids in the world.

Some of my ministry responsibilities changed in January as the new school year began because the leadership team at Community Connection decided to cancel the Youth Meetings that were taking place every Friday evening. It was canceled due to a lack of adult supervision.

February

I met with the Field Council in February and shared with them that my responsibilities at CC had been cut drastically. I also shared with them that I had been praying for some time about the possibility of a change in ministry locations. It seemed to me that the doors for ministry were closing at Community Connection. What I was doing could be done by a lay person in the church. I also wanted to be a wise steward of the money that others are investing on a monthly basis. After a lengthy discussion, the Field Council gave me the permission to look for a new ministry location. God has opened doors. I found a church south of Durban, who is or was in need of some help with teenage girls and young adult women. I spoke with the Pastor and his wife and they were excited with the possibility of my joining them and ABWE missionaries Darin and Kathy Ishler at Crossroads Community for Christ. I have attended quite a few of their services and have already begun to get to know some of the teens and young adults.

I met with the Deacons at Community Connection the beginning of March and gave them my 30 day notice. I love the people at the Community Connection and will miss being a part of their lives on a weekly basis...but our friendships will continue eternally.
With the change of churches also comes the joy of finding a new place to live close to Crossroads. Praise the Lord with me that He has supplied a wonderful “Garden Cottage” in Yellowwood Park. It is a two bedroom house that is well secured. There is still enough space for guests (hint, hint). Please pray for me as I now prepare to outfit my house (as my apartment in Ballito was fully furnished) and adjust to life in Yellowwood Park. My move in date is scheduled for the week of April 15. Pray for me as I pack and set up my new home. Also pray as I get to know the people at Crossroads (especially the teens and young adults).

In His service,

Sue Lodico
