ALUMNI PRAISE AND PRAYER

March 2013 Update

Chris & Donna Sadowitz  (1985)

Dear Prayer Family,
It's March Madness and if you know me you know I love sports. Always have . . . always will! At 50 (thank the Lord) I am still regularly playing basketball, soccer, and any other sport that brings me into contact with people and a little friendly competition. Donna, myself and the kids have been exercising regularly in a gym to try to stay healthy for our return to Japan. Japanese often notice our weight.

March madness (as if it needed an explanation) has to do with college basketball in the United States. The top 64 teams have a year ending tournament which, in my opinion, is more exciting than professional basketball. I am rooting for the Syracuse Orange Men who, at the composing of this letter, have just dispatched Seton Hall to advance to the quarter finals of the Big East Tournament which is a precursor to the big dance, the NCAA tournament. My brother in law, Brian, wants another Big East team - Villanova - to win; I hope both teams make it to the final game!

The Bible often couches spiritual truth in sportsman like language. It helps us understand unseen spiritual realities. For example God (The Coach) has a mission (the game plan) and He wants to see it completed by his people (His players). Here's another way to see it: God is a General in an Army and we are soldiers who fight. To do God's will in the world is to “Struggle” against principles and powers. To follow God is to fight as one who does not “beat the air” or “run” aimlessly. We are to “run the race” that is set before us. We are led in “triumph” by Christ. And when we have finished the course and run faithfully there is laid up for us an incorruptible crown.

Parents, at our home church, asked us to teach a Taekwondo class for a few kids. Well, the group has swelled to 50 boys and girls! And at age 50 (P.S. Donna, my young looking wife, turns 50 this month on the 30th send all gifts and checks to her older looking adoring husband - just kidding) it is not as easy as it once was to get this body ready for an intense workout. Sitting in front of the TV and watching others be active has an alluring affect especially during the cold winter of New York. As I contemplate the affect of age on sports I wonder what the passing of time has done to our spiritual condition and perceptions. Has a consumer mentality infiltrated our Christianity and made us passive and soft? Has “be doers of the word and not hearers only” become just a passing fancy especially as it concerns sharing our faith? Is our faith becoming reduced to attending events and services?

May God help us realize that there is no retirement in the work of the Kingdom. The life and death competition for the souls of men, women and children continues even as I write these sentences and you read them. God extends our life and empowers us to carry out His mission in this world in order to glorify Himself. May we be like Caleb who at 80 years old said, “I am as strong now as I was when I was 40 for going in and coming out, for waging war and taking the Hill country that God has promised me.”

Praise and Prayer
1. Please pray for Rota, the Japanese boy who lives with us, that he may make it back to the States and get a Visa to possibly stay for Bible College.
2. Please pray for Rota's parents who totaled our car in Japan and were injured. Please pray that through this hardship they would see the love of Christ and come to know Him.
3. Please pray for my Tuesday and Thursday basketball group at a local college that God might save them: Jeff, Nate, Paul, Bill, Jeff, Sue and Joe
4. Praise God for many new friends who have joined our support team in prayer and finances.
5. Please pray for our financial needs - especially concerning our outfit and passage.

Thanks for partnering with us,
Chris & Donna
