ALUMNI PRAISE AND PRAYER

February 2013 Update

Ron & Chris Self  (1977)

Dear Faithful Prayer Supporters,

Thank you for your faithful prayers on our behalf during the past week.
We had good services on Sunday, with a good attendance in both the morning and evening services. Our son Mark preached in both services, preaching a particularly effective message for parents from Deuteronomy 6. The message was very helpful to our parents after many of their children made good decisions during our recent youth camp. We were also pleased to have two first-time visitors in our morning service. Please pray for us as we seek to minister to the spiritual needs of these folks.
Last week we ministered at our annual youth camp. We ended up with a total of 94 campers and leaders from our church and our daughter churches. We had a great week of ministry. Our leaders did a great job running the camp, our professional cook provided the best food ever at camp, God gave us great weather throughout the week, and most of all, the Word of God was preached with power and clarity. Please pray for our young people who made decisions for the glory of God and grew spiritually during the week. Pray for our youth leaders as they continue to minister to them on a daily basis.
On Sunday we concluded a new members class, with 20 candidates for membership! Now we begin the deacon interviews and we plan to have a baptism on March 3rd. We are excited about adding new members to our church family. Please pray that each one would follow through in his obedience to the Lord in baptism and in becoming active members of our congregation.
Mark, Anahí and Sophia travelled back to the U.S. on Monday night, to continue their deputation ministry. We were thankful for their ministry to our people while they were here. Mark preached a total of 20 times in church services, camp and various other ministries. Please pray for them now as they continue their deputation ministry. They hope to get to the field by the end of 2013. They reached 47% of their support after one year of deputation, and have 35 meetings scheduled so far for 2013. Please continue to pray that by the end of next year they will reach full support and be able to join us in Argentina (They will not need language school!). If you would like to invite Mark to speak at your church or if you would be interested if supporting their ministry, I am sure they would be happy to hear from you at: mself86@gmail.com. Please pray for them as they travel to Florida on Monday for meetings there.
I am continuing at one-week and counting on the "Defense Draft" of my dissertation. It must be turned in on February 15.I am making good progress, but there is still much to do! Thank you for your prayers.

On February 16, 25 of our men will travel a couple of hours away to the town of Lobos for a work day, helping a sister church finish their church building. Please pray for good weather and for a great day of work, fellowship and service.
We continue to work on getting approved plans for the construction in Vicente Lopez. Please pray that we could make good progress. We are expecting a work team of 15 from North Carolina in March of this year. Please pray as we make preparations for their visit and that much would be accomplished.

Thank you for your faithfulness before the throne of grace on our behalf. We count on your prayers for the work here in Buenos Aires.

To God be the Glory,

Ron and Chris Self

February 17 Update

Dear Faithful Prayer Supporters,

Thank you for your faithful prayers on our behalf during the past week.
Friday was a very big day for me . . . after two and half years, 373 pages and about 1200 footnotes, I was able to submit the defense draft of my doctoral dissertation! What a relief! Now I "just" have to successfully defend it in March. Thank you for your prayers as I worked toward reaching this goal. I am scheduled to defend my dissertation on March 14. I would appreciate your prayers for that as well.
On Saturday, 22 of our men traveled a couple of hours away to the town of Lobos for a work day to help a sister church finish its church building. Their auditorium is about 650 sq. ft.,and will hold about 100 people. We were able to achieve a great deal in one day . . . a complete electrical instalation, with 10 light fixtures, 3 ceiling fans, electrical outlets and all of the wiring, installation of water and sewer pipes for two bathrooms, several sections of brick laid, 14 pews built and all of the auditorium painted, inside and out. For lunch they grilled two suckling pigs and a lamb! So, we enjoyed great fellowship, good food, and were able to serve the Lord together. We left the building clean and set up for their first Sunday services in this location, and they were able to end their rental agreement on the small building they have been renting for several years. It was a blessing for both churches and we we believe that God was honored! Our men gave wonderful testimonies tonight in our services about the blessing that it was to them.
On March 2, a group of 14 people will be coming to do construction on the church in Vicente Lopez. Please pray for them as they make final preparations and as they travel and pray for us as we prepare all of the logistics necessary to make their time profitable.

Thank you for your faithfulness before the throne of grace on our behalf. We count on your prayers for the work here in Buenos Aires.

To God be the Glory,

Ron and Chris Self
