ALUMNI PRAISE AND PRAYER

January 2013 Update

Jake & Sandy Schrader  (1976)

(Received 12/31)

Dear Praying Friends,

"Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house not a creature was stirring NOT EVEN A MOUSE!" This was mainly due to my wife who has adopted a family of stray cats. I 've got the message after 36 years folks. Love me, love my cats. I'm sure our three college girls who had come out to give us a hand appreciated the absence of rats.....but what about the bats? Yes, in the cottage where they were lodging I discovered a family of bats! I prayerfully was able to remove one of the baby bats as Momma bat sternly looked down upon me. Might I add very prayerfully I placed it SAFELY outside (for any of you environmentalists who may be reading our Christmas letter). Our verse for this time of the year (and one of my favorites) is "GLORY TO GOD in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men!" Luke 2:14. Despite the cats, rats (or absence of such), and bats we believe God still received the glory through us and yes, in spite of us at times. This has been a very hard Christmas for many in South Africa this year. Even by THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS there has been over 1000 deaths on the highways of South Africa. Yet, as the angels said our God still manages to get all the glory HE truly deserves. Do know that some of you will be getting this letter via email and some via snail mail. So I am doing my best to try not to be too repetitive.

GLORY TO GOD! Our three college girls, Natalie, Callie, and Kirsten practically adopted our kids. And we want our girls from the South to know they have already been adopted by our kids. Our girls from a Bible college in South Carolina got to go to camp with our teens and were so blessed and impressed by the solid teaching and evangelism of this camp. They reported back to us that over the week 150 decisions were made to accept Christ! Restore's own VBS was over flowing with kids. Some running through the Bush as they just couldn't wait for their lift. Yes, kids were coming not only to Restore camp, but also to Christ. GLORY TO GOD IN THE HIGHEST!

GLORY TO GOD! Last Sunday after Natalie, Callie, and Kirsten's departure for the USA, Restore Baptist had an glorious turn out for our Sunday morning service. I saw more than a dozen hands go up to receive Christ at the end of the service. One of these people had lost her beloved brother in a traffic accident on Saturday. Yes, God was showing us the continued light of His glory in much darkness. PLEASE PRAY for these decisions that they will bear much fruit in the new year!

GLORY TO GOD! Sabata has come back to us after being gone for almost a year. He is the young man who carries tattoos from a notorious gang in our area. I often referred to him as our littlest tsotsie , but what a changed little man he is. What repentance, what zeal! He has demonstrated genuine repentance. He and another recently saved young man, Jomo directed me back through the squatter camp to visit his grandmother. Sadly grandmother had gotten drunk and had wandered off, but his sister was home. Both Sabata and Jomo zealously witnessed to Patricia about her desperate need of God's forgiveness. Folks, I sat there with tears in my eyes I prayed as Sabata pleaded for Patricia to accept Christ. This has not happened yet, but we hope to meet with her again and grandma too. PLEASE PRAY FOR THEIR SALVATION. I will keep you informed. Yes Agatha, whose son had been shot dead was out for our Christmas service. She had professed Christ with me at her shanty two weeks ago and was just SO HAPPY to be with us for a formal worship service. She simply smiled and smiled the entire service! Yes, TO GOD BE THE GLORY GREAT THINGS HE HATH DONE SO LOVED HE THE WORLD THAT HE GAVE US HIS SON. I love that grand old hymn and it certainly explains what is going on at Hani Park squatter camp. Amen? Amen!

Well, tomorrow begins a brand new Year. I'm am sure it will be filled with brand new opportunities as well as obstacles as we continue in the service of our King of Kings. Sandy and I are not afraid as we know we will have your prayer power. Thank you so very much for your amazing gifts as well. "GLORY TO GOD IN THE HIGHEST AND ON EARTH PEACE, GOOD WILL TOWARD MEN!" Amen? Amen!

We wish all of His blessings on you as well in this up and coming New Year,
Pastor Jake & Mamma Sandy

January 10 Update

Dear Praying Friends,

It is blazing hot here in South Africa and I imagine most you feel like you are inside an ice box. So let's turn our eyes off the temporary and on to the eternal. In fact Paul says, "While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are TEMPORARY, but the things which are not seen are ETERNAL." 2 Cor. 4:18.

THE TEMPORARY: We prayed together and we paid together (our pockets as well as yours) and we got a new security gate up and running. Hooray! Tuesday night (Jan. 8th) it was gone! We are not sure why the alarm did not go off when they began to tamper with it, but it did not. Of course this has caused our hearts to sink (especially our security man Pasca) We plan on making a new gate, but this time out of wood. It will hold wiring and the scrap wood is worth next to nothing compared to scrap iron. THE ETERNAL? Some of our guys came over and spent the last couple of nights with Pasca. I hear it was very encouraging fellowship.

THE TEMPORARY: The school year has begun for students out here. A lot of our Hani Park kids need school uniforms, book bags, shoes, note books, pencils, ect. MAN! WE CAN HARDLY WAIT TO GET OUR CONTAINER! Due to many generous givers we have had to move up to the 40 foot container rather than the 20 foot one. THE ETERNAL? Our Lord Jesus said, "YOUR REWARD IN HEAVEN WILL BE GREAT!

THE TEMPORARY Our Agnes was sitting in church last Sunday smiling from ear to ear. Her son had been shot to death. In the past she had badly beaten her grandson. Her daughter daughter Lorato had to seek shelter at Virginia's place. THE ETERNAL? She brought a neighbor friend with her. PRAY for Ntswani, she just can't figure out what has happened to her old drinking buddy, Agnes. PRAY she will find the answer to this question the same way Agnes did by faith alone in Jesus Christ!

Yes, folks for now we live in THE TEMPORARY, but THE ETERNAL is coming and I CAN HARDLY WAIT! How about you?

In His love and service,
Jake..................& Sandy, too!
