ALUMNI PRAISE AND PRAYER

October 2012 Update

Steve & Charlene Giegerich  (1984)

In the book The Millennials it is stated that the Millennial Generation, born between 1980-2000, is larger in number than the Baby Boomer generation. If the current rate of the Millennial Generation continues going to college, & if they graduate, almost 50% of this generation will have a college degree. This generation will have more college graduates than all of the pervious generations combined. These stats show us that college campuses are a strategic place to reach people and that we try to reach them.

This year we want the ministry to focus more on internationals. This past year we ministered to six visiting scholars from countries where missionaries are not allowed. Some of these professors are here for a few weeks while others are here for as long as two years. On September 2, one was baptized at Fellowship Baptist Church, the church we attend in South Bend. Another professor told us that it is a crime that the knowledge of God be withheld from the people. Yet many of these precious souls come to America to study and while they are here, they hear the Gospel.

We were informed our request for property tax exemption was denied. Our appeal needs to be submitted by September 26. Please pray we receive property tax exemption.

Our son James comes to campus to sit at the literature table. Tom Wright continues to serve three days a week and John and Jean Baughman with Baptist Mid-Missions also help at the literature table as their schedule permits.

This fall we are presenting DVD series The Stranger on the Road to Emmaus by John Cross both on campus and on Friday evening. One international who is not a Christian attended one Friday night & told Steve that he understood the material! Pray the Holy Spirit will work on all who hear the Gospel so that students be saved.

One thing we are doing at the literature table at IUSB is taking prayer requests. This helps us be in contact with more students. We will pray for those who give us requests and ask them to tell us when God answers a request.

More than once have I had a unique experience at one particular supporting church. Whenever I preached, the topic usually relates to an area which the pastor is burdened. I do not know anything about what is going on at the church, nor have I been informed by the pastor about that area. I spoke on the Importance of Scripture Memory. After the message, the pastor challenged the people to memorize Scripture. I want the Holy Spirit of God to lead me to preach certain messages which complement the needs in a local church ministry.

Thanks for your prayers!
In Christ,
Stephen and Charlene
