ALUMNI PRAISE AND PRAYER

September 2012 Update

Steve & Mary Jo Mills  (1976)

Dear Friends,

I wanted to give you some up to date information as to my health. We just saw the doctor today and here is the short version of what he had to say. He ordered some lab work a few weeks ago and the things that showed up were incredible! After speaking with our mission doctor this past week, he said that babies that are born with labwork like I had don’t live and so he has talked to other doctors (even the author of a recent book) to be sure he is on the right course. The short of it is I will be on a lot of medication to attempt to correct the issues being presented. If you wish to know more don’t hesitate to contact us. There is a question as to if I may have picked up something to cause this difficulty or was it the Crystal Light? My small intestine is harboring a type of flora that is not correct and so they feel that the hypoglycemic diet that I must begin will have a soothing effect on this problem. Time will tell how much damage has been done by the Crystal Light since I am beginning to get feeling back to my feet. I had an incident last evening that cements this in our thinking. I fell again but wasn’t seriously hurt and it was due to the lack of feeling in my feet to indicate I was tipping over. Fortunately this is correcting itself but again, only time will tell.

He suggested that we maintain the appointment at Mayo Clinic on the 25th of September. This is primarily to confirm or deny what has shown up. So, we would appreciate your prayers as we drive to Rochester and see what the doctor there has to say.

We also look forward to seeing many of you as we travel to our supporting churches

We also want to share with you that we are now owners of a house. While many of our colleagues are trying to sell their house (a matter of prayer for our pre-fielders), we want to prepare for our retirement that will begin soon. In our next letter we will provide you with more information as to an address, etc. Mary Jo and her sister have worked hard to locate just the right house and we think this will care for our long term needs. This will save us more than half of what we are currently paying out in rent. And we will have something to show for the outlay in funds.

We would like to ask you to pray for our daughter, Kellie and her husband Eric. They just went through the loss of their second child via a pregnancy and for those of you who have lost a pregnancy, you will understand. Thank you.

We are also thrilled to learn that water is flowing at the new hospital in Mango, Togo. Now we don’t know the extent of the flow or the quality of the water (definitely not potable) but this is a real answer to prayer and we thank you for praying for this. Now pray that this was will remain constant and will be clean enough to use. Another prayer request is the electricity. The missionaries there have suffered under the lack of electricity in the town. Fortunately there is electricity at the new hospital in Mango and so this is a big help as they can take items from their freezer to the hospital and keep it frozen there. So, not a lot of loss is incurred. Thank you for making this a real matter of prayer.

We were also thrilled to learn of the more than 1,700 kids that showed up for the first ever 4 day National Youth Conference. The information is still coming in and is a little sketchy at this time. We will provide more information in our next letter.

In His Service,

Steve & Mary Jo
