A Man with Vision and Faith
Dr. Wendell Kempton was an integral part in obtaining the property where the BBC&S campus now sits. An alumnus, athletic director, administrator and trustee, Dr. Kempton had a great love and vision for the future of BBC.
A 1957 graduate, Dr. Kempton returned to Baptist Bible in 1961, then located in Johnson City, NY, to take on the roles of Director of Christian Education, Athletic Director and basketball coach.
When the school relocated in 1967, it was by Dr. Kempton’s initiative that the property in Clarks Summit was obtained. He played an important role in the early development and advancement of the athletic program, establishing both the baseball team and soccer team. He coached at BBC from 1961 until 1968, finishing his coaching career by winning the conference championship in basketball.
From 1968 to 1971 he served as Director of Development and in 1976 he accepted the role of trustee.
BBC honored Dr. Kempton in 1974 when he was recognized as Alumnus of the Year, and again in 2006 when he was inducted as the first member of the Athletic Department’s Hall of Honor.
Through many years of ministry leadership, faithfulness, and dedication to the cause of Christ, Dr. Wendell Kempton became a recognized model of godliness to BBC students and family.
Dr. Kempton, who served as President of the Association of Baptists for World Evangelism, died in January 2008, leaving a legacy of service and leadership.
